ASH undertook an environmental impact assessment and prepared an Environmental Statement for the Inverlael Hydroelectric Scheme
In 2003, ASH was appointed by RWE Npower Renewables to undertake an Environmental Impact Assessment and prepare an Environmental Statement for Inverlael hydroelectric development.
The 3 Megawatt run-of-river scheme is located to the south east of Loch Broom, Wester Ross, within the catchments of the River Lael and Allt Mor.
The scheme comprises two intakes on upland burns, a series of associated buried pipes to convey the water to a new powerhouse, two pipe bridges, a buried substation and the construction of temporary and permanent access tracks.
Key Tasks
Screening and Scoping
EIA coordination and project management
Landscape and visual impact assessment
Stakeholder consultation
What we did
ASH project managed the production of the Environmental Statement and provided specialist landscape and visual, land use, recreation and planning inputs and coordinated inputs from specialist subconsultants on birds, habitats and animals, electrofishing, fresh water pearl mussels, cultural heritage, noise and vibration.
ASH advised RWE Npower Renewables during the development of the design to minimise any adverse environmental impacts resulting from the scheme.
The Environmental Statement accompanied the Section 36 Application in January 2005. Consent was given by Scottish Ministers in summer 2007 and construction was completed in July 2009.
